![]() Residents took a staunch position against the banquet hall’s opening of a hookah lounge, even though it is located 240 feet from the nearest residential property line and 340 feet from the closest home. “Residents cannot sleep at night, cannot be out in their backyards, cannot invite friends to their homes, and cannot even open their windows due to the smoke and noise from these lounges,” reads a letter from Bernice Danker, an Archer Street resident. They asserted that hookah lounges that already exist in Little Arabia have been problematic. Residents of that neighborhood wrote letters harshly critical of the proposed banquet hall, citing noise, public safety and second hand smoke problems. Smoking hookahs, a pastime in many Middle-Eastern countries, has become a nuisance to some residents of the Archer Street neighborhood that runs parallel to Brookhurst. “It’s going to bring a beautiful restaurant and banquet hall to the area.”īut given the lingering concerns from residents, Councilwoman Gail Eastman asked her colleagues to consider a temporary ban of the lounges at their next meeting, scheduled for Dec. “This is such a win-win,” said Councilwoman Lucille Kring at Tuesday’s council meeting. Residents didn’t show up in force to oppose the plan as they did at the previous council meeting.Ĭouncil members are also happier with the smaller hookah lounge and approved its permit. Meanwhile, residents’ fears have apparently diminished after the banquet hall owner agreed to shrink the size of the hookah lounge from 3,800 square feet to 1,834 square feet. Furthermore, an air filtration system and enclosure, which according to the banquet hall owner would cost $300,000, wouldn’t completely eliminate toxic particulates in tobacco smoke, Vander Dussen told the council. But I will avoid a weekend and go on a weeknight to possibly avoid all the loud music and throngs of Sheesha and cigarette smokers. It turned out that enclosing the lounge would violate a state law that makes it illegal to smoke indoors at restaurants. However I will definitely go there again, maybe this time with my family. The owner needs to take some hospitality classes to learn better customer service. He made the billing process unnecessary complicated and it took us a good 10 minutes to work things out with him as we were all paying separately. One more thing that needs attention was the guy behind the cash counter, who may be the owner. At times that music got so loud that I was screaming just to talk to the guy seated across from me. And taking off another star for the really loud music. Service is also acceptable but I am taking two stars off, one for all the excessive smoking with little kids around. You just have to be firm and tell them that you don't want bottled water.Īs far as food is concerned, this place is really good. One thing to note is that they like to push bottled water at $2 each but they also offer regular water with ice in glasses. ![]() The accompanying yogurt, salads and pickles etc were all really good. The Mandi was excellent and the lamb was falling off the bone and was not gamy as some other places. We ordered the mixed grill, the lamb and Chicken Mandi as well as Chicken Kasbah.Īll the food was very good, the Kababs were very flavorful, a little dry to over charred for some of us but I didn't mind it as they tasted excellent. They brought us the right order about 15 minutes after serving the rest of the dishes. After letting our server know about this, 4 different waiters/staff came to our table and asked us if we were sure that we ordered Chicken? However the staff was well behaved and courteous and I didn't have any problem with that one mistake. we got two lamb Mandis whereas we ordered one Lamb and one Chicken among other items. Our waiter did not write down the order and claimed to have a very good memory. Service was a little slow and a bit unorganized. Almost everything that we ordered was well prepared. Going back to the food, it was VERY good. Maybe it is OK in their homes to do so, but I was a bit disturbed to see that. ![]() still OK with me but men, women were also smoking cigarettes while seated along with their families comprising of young children. I am a non-smoker but I usually don't have a problem with others smoking but the place was filled with smoke. I was with a party of 6 people and the only table large enough to accommodate us was in the smoking section. They have a small no-smoking area and a huge smoking section. Most of the patrons were there to enjoy Shisha or Hookah. The restaurant drew a large crowd on a Saturday night. in Anaheim where there are many middle eastern restaurants spread around in a close proximity. They serve typical Jordanian food and are located off of Brookhurst and Ball rd. ★★★★☆ I have only been to this restaurant once so my review is based on just a single visit/experience.
